BY KIANNI FIGUEREO, GABRIELA WATSON-BURKETT, AND JENNIFER HERNANDEZ ON JULY 24, 2024

Video 1: Transformative Justice

¡Presente! Media and the Free Migration Project have joined forces to bring you an enlightening and thought-provoking video series based on Abolitionist Futures’ 2022 Reading List. The topics range from transformative justice to abolition as a framework in immigration work and the intersectionality of these concepts with feminism, anti-racism, and more.

Free Migration Project’s 2023 Abolitionist Curriculum is an adaptation of Abolitionist Futures’ Abolition Curriculum. (Free Migration Project has no affiliation with the UK-based organization, Abolitionist Futures.)

In this first video, Angie Chen, a Summer 2023 FMP Law Intern, explains the concept of transformative justice and how it aims to humanize individuals who have caused harm while addressing the root problems that enable harm to occur. Let's spark a conversation about alternatives to punishment and the potential for building trust within our communities.
